The eBay Learning Curve

The whopping 10 auctions I have listed on eBay have finished and I have sold a grand total of… wait for it…dun-da-ta-ta…1!

Yeah, that’s right one.  I sold Gambit for 3.99 which I listed with a cost of shipping and handling for $7.00. According to my Paypal account I will be receiving a total of $10.37. I guess the $0.62 difference is the cut for eBay, which is not bad.

Now, before the auction of the item actually concluded I tried to figure out how to best package the item for shipping. The guy at the post-office told me if I used a one of the Priority Mail envelopes it would cost around $5. However, I told him I did not want to use an envelope because it did not seem like it would protect the item well enough. Then he pulled out a Priority Mail box and told me shipping that way would cost a little over $6. That seemed to be the better option so I took the box home and waited for the auction to finish.

Now that the auction had completed, while I was waiting for a conformation of payment I started to stare back and forth at the box I got from the post office and the Gambit figure. I got to thinking it is such a huge box for a small item.  If I was going to ship it in that box I was going to need a lot of packaging material to keep it from moving around. I looked at the other Priority Mail boxes that had ordered from the post office earlier and found one that seemed to be a better a fit. It was still a relatively large box for the Gambit figure but not as large as the other one. I decided to use it and I got the package ready to ship for the next day.

This morning I headed over to the post office to send off my first eBay sell ever. By the way is there never anyone in-line at the post-office? When I finally got to the register and handed the cashier the package I was told that shipping the item would cost me a grand total of $12.10. Now, that price was a bit higher than what I was told earlier. It turns out that the box that I had packaged it in was not a better fit after all. It was a flat rate box.

Well, I guess I could have just decided not to go through with the shipping at that moment. However, there turned out to be bit of a mix up with the Paypal account that had I linked to my eBay account. While the past couple of days I was reading on eBay that the payment was still pending my buyer had already sent his payment through Paypal.  It was also already the weekend and I didn’t want to wait any longer on sending out this item. I decided to go through with it and take the loss in hopes that I will still get a favorable feedback rating so that more buyers would be willing to bid on my auctions.

So as for my first eBay sell ever I ended up in the red at $1.37. I guess I’ll just chalk it up as a learning experience.

1999 Previews Exclusive 12" Caitlin Fairchild with Limited Edition Chromium Comic Book

When Image Comics started out one of my favorite comic-book series under their publication was Gen 13. Then unfortunately with all the breaks in publication of the series and a few rewrites of the characters' origins it kind of got hard for me to follow along. Now that the Wildsotrm Universe has been absorb into the DC Universe it seems that Gen 13 is no more. Well, at least for the time being.

There are still plenty of comic book nerds out there who remember Gen 13 and of course their leader Caitlin Fairchild. If you are new to comics you still might get a chance to know her as she has reappeared in DC's New 52 Superboy series and is expected to star in the new Ravagers on going series by DC Comics.

For those that remember Caitlin from her Gen 13 days here is a 1999 Previews Exclusive 12" Catilin Fairchild with a Limited Edition Chromium Comic Book inside.

The box has a little wear and a few scuff marks from storage but has never been opened. I've seen a few versions of this figure around the web but not this one which features her hair in a ponytail.

If you are interested in this figure of Gen Caitlin Fairchild you can find this item for sell on eBay by clicking here.

The eBay Limit

It seems that I have hit my eBay limit with a grand total of 10 items for sell. When I first read that I could post the first 50 items of the month for free I thought to myself that would probably enough for me to get things rolling… But 10? It looks like I hit a speed bump.

Well, I guess it is a good policy to limit people from trying to just put anything on their site and to prevent some of us that are new to eBay from simply getting carried away.  As most of you can probably tell I’m new to selling online and in fact I rarely ever purchase anything online either.

I see there is an option to call them and try to persuade them to increase my selling limits but maybe 10 is a good place for a newbie like me to stop. On the other hand, I do have a lot of items for sell and they need to go. I’m going to have to think about this one.

By the way, if you got a good tip on how to increase your eBay sells feel free to leave a comment below.

1999 Mandarin Spawn: the Scarlet Edge by McFarlane Toys

McFaralane makes some cool looking figures and in my opinion Mandarin Spawn is one of the coolest. When the action figure of this character first came out in 1999 who would have thought the alter ego of this badass was originally a humiliated deformed man suffering from elephantiasis.

From McFarlane Toys' 1999 Spawn the Dark Ages Series this is Mandarin Spawn: the Scarlet Edge.

The package is still in excellent condition with very minor wear from storage.

If you are interested in this figure of the Mandarin Spawn you can find it on eBay by

1999 J. Scott Campbell's Danger Girl: Abbey Chase by McFarlane Toys

Abbey Chase is your Laura Croft joins Carlie's Angels heroine. She is the field-commander of a secret ops unit known as Danger Girl, which also happens to be the title of the on going series she stars in created by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell.

I'm not quite sure how to label the followers of the Danger Girl series. Is it more of a cult following or has it already gone mainstream? I'm not sure if everyone knows about Danger girl yet but there has already been a Sony PlayStation video game based on it and one of it's latest series for 2012 was talked about in an article on the USA Today website. There's even talks of a live action movie in the works. Whatever the case maybe I think those not in the know will find out about Danger Girl and Abbey Chase soon enough.

So with that this is a 1999 Danger Girl's Abbey Chase action figure from McFarlane Toys.

It's a well sculpted figure which is typical from McFarlane Toys and it matches the drawing style of J. Scott Campbell perfectly.

The packaging is in excellent condition with only some slight scuffing on the back of the cardboard due to storage.

If you are interested in this figure of Danger Girl's Abbey Chase, you can find it for sale on... Will be posting soon.

Star Wars 1995 Stormtrooper Action Figure by Kenner

Everyone loves Stormtroopers and so do I but why? Being a clone doesn't leave much room for an individual to stand out in a crowd amongst other clones. And in the movies besides being blaster fodder and two of them getting stripped of their armor so Luke Skywalker and Han Solo could prance around the Death Star undetected they don't have very big roles....
Maybe it's the uniform. Everyone loves a man in uniform or wants to be in one to be loved by someone who does.

This is a 1995 Star Wars Stormtrooper Action Figure by Kenner.

There is slight warping of the backboard. So, it is not perfectly flat.
There are also some little dings at the edges.

If you are interested in this figure of everyone's favorite space cadet, you can find it for sale on... Will be posting soon.

Star Wars 1997 Micro Machine Collection Set IV

From a galaxy and time far, far away this is Set IV of the Star Wars 1997 Micro Machines Collection, consisting of an Imperial Probot, Imperial AT-AT, and Snowspeeder. All three where prominently featured in The Empire Strikes Back.

There is some slight fraying in the bottom corners of the backboard but the packaging is still in great overall condition.

If you want to recreate your own version of the Battle of Hoth or is just interested in this item you can find it on... Will be posting soon.

Marvel's X-men 1994 ToyBiz figure: Gambit with Power Kick Action!

Gambit is a huge favorite among many and was voted in at #65 on IGN's list of Top 100 Comic Book Heroes. Created by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee it's easy to see why the character is so popular. When you can take down bad guys with only a deck of cards you have to be pretty bad-ass. I guess that's why he gets all the ladies.

Another item from Toy Biz's 1994 line up of Marvel's X-men action figures.

There is some slight fraying in one corner of the backboard and the plastic is slightly creased.

The Marvel Universe Trading Card that is enclosed in the package features Shatterstar of X-Force.

If you are interested in this figure of Gambit you can find it on eBay by clicking here.

 SOLD

Marvel's X-men 1994 ToyBiz figure: Killspree with Slashing Blade Arms!

Killspree also known as Killjoy (not the most creative set of names) is a member of Weapon P.R.I.M.E. which is under authority of Canada's Department K. That's the same agency responsible for Wolverines adamantium claws.

Yet another item from Toy Biz's 1994 line up of Marvel's X-men action figures.

The backboard has some warping unfortunately due to being stored in a box with other items of mine. The Marvel Universe Trading Card that comes enclosed in the package features Arcade archenemy of the X-men.

If you are interested in this figure of a purple and yellow killing machine, you can find it for sale on... Will be posting soon.

Marvel's X-men 1994 ToyBiz figure: Sauron with Savage Attack Wings!

Not the one from Lord of the Rings. Sauron is one of the X-men's oldest and well known archenemies amongst comic geeks.  Unlike other characters that simply transformed in to the common werewolf or vampire,  Karl Lykos has the ability to transform into an energy sucking were-pteranodon vampire. Beat that Twilight!

This is yet again another item from Toy Biz's 1994 line up of Marvel's X-men action figures.

I don't actually remember seeing him use a club in any of the comics. After all why would you need one when you are a were-pteranodon vampire!

The backboard has some warping unfortunately due to being stored in a box with other items of mine. The X-men: Series 2 trading card that comes enclosed in the package features Rogue of the X-men.

As a teenager Karl Lykos was bitten by a mutated pterodactyl which gave him the ability to drain the life energy of living beings. Years later, he would try to drain the energy from the mutant Havok causing him to turn into a humanoid Pteranodon with superhuman hypnotic powers, as a side-effect. With his new found powers he then named himself Sauron, after J.R.R. Tolkien's villain in the Lord of The Rings novels.

If you are interested in this figure of a energy sucking were-pteranodon vampire, you can find it for sale on... Will be posting soon.

Marvel's X-men 1994 ToyBiz figure: Iceman with Super Ice Slide!

Iceman is one of the oldest X-men characters introduced yet is usually portrayed as one of the youngest. Ah, the magic of comics.

This item featuring one of the X-men's most powerful mutant is another from Toy Biz's 1994 line up of Marvel's X-men action figures.

The item comes with a freezable Super Ice Slide or a one cube ice-tray....

The Iceman figure is transparent and has blue tinge, except for his belt.
The backboard is in great condition.
The Ultra Fleer Marvel Universe Trading card that comes enclosed in the package features Cable.

If you are interested in this figure of Iceman you can find it for sale on... Will be posting soon.

Marvel's X-men 1994 ToyBiz figure: Storm with Power Glow Action!

Here is another favorite character of mine form the Marvel Universe, Oro Munroe also known as Storm. What's not to like about Storm? She's one of the most powerful X-men. She's also a queen, and was even worshiped as a goddess. Well, I guess there was that time when she was sporting a Mohawk and spiked collar. Never really got in to that punk look. Well, in this item she's sporting a silver outfit with Power Glow action lighting!

Another item from Toy Biz's 1994 line up of Marvel's X-men action figures...

She doesn't really have a Mohawk here... It's more of a Tina Turner in Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome look.

I would have to guess that the Power Glow Action Light doesn't really work anymore simply due to age. The backboard has some minor dings here and there but otherwise is in pretty good condition. The Ultra Fleer Marvel Universe Trading Card that's enclosed in the package features X-factor's Strong Guy.

If you are interested in this figure of Storm or just want to use the head to create your own Aunty Entity action figure you can find it on... Will be posting soon.

Marvel's X-men 1994 ToyBiz figure: Ch'od with Double Arm Hurling Action!

So I've decided to start by first trying to sell the toys and the first item on the block is one my favorite Starjammers. Not sure why I really like him so much though. I think it might just be because he's a huge green alien that looks like a cross between a lizard and a fish.

Anyway, here's the item from Toy Biz's 1994 line up of Marvel's X-men action figures...

You know it looks like he's smiling in that pic.

Check out how he can easily toss other action figures over his head.

The backboard has some wear and is warped from storage. However, the package has never been opened. I have provided several pictures so you can judge the condition of the item for yourself.

The 1994 Fleer Ultra X-men trading card that comes in the package features Cable.

Ch'od is one of the original members of the Starjammers who first appeared in Marvel Comics in X-men #104. He is often accompanied by his alien pet named Cr’reee (the small white figure that also comes in the package). A skilled starship pilot, marksman, swordsman, and hand-to-hand combatant with superhuman strength, durability, and endurance; he is a formidable opponent for anyone who decides to cross the Starjammers.

If you are interested in this figure of Ch'od of the Starjammers, you can find it for sale on... Will be posting soon.

The intro...

I've been a huge comic nerd for a long time. It was my dad who first introduced me to comics when I was very young. He gave me his small collection of comics at the time and ever since then I’ve continued to add to it. Over the years I have collected hundreds of comics, toy figures, and other memorabilia. And though I would really love to hang on to them, due to unfortunate circumstances I have to let them go. *sigh*

So, the purpose of this blog will be mainly to showcase what I have up for sale on eBay. Most of the items will be comic related memorabilia but I also have a few other “types” of collectables that I hope to be getting rid of as well.

And every once in a while in between the post of what I have for sell I may just post some of the crazy ideas that pop-up in my head which of course you can simply choose to ignore.

Thanks for stopping by.
